I've read in a few patterns lately that you should use matching thread or neutral thread when piecing your quilts. I'm wondering why? It's not going to be seen, right?
I admit, I'm lazy( and cheap!) and use any old thread I have laying around for piecing. Hot pink, fluorescent green, whatever. ;-)
I'd love to know what you use though, and why it makes a difference in piecing.
Come on, spill it. Inquiring minds want to know. ☺

I tend to use neutral threads for piecing but I agree the color is not a major issue. The mail factor in selecting thread for piecing for me is how heavy it is. I like to use a fine thread like DMC or even Bottom Line by Superior. Depending on how many seams are in a quilt, heavier thread can add quite a bit of weight to a finished quilt. Just my two cents worth.
Hi there Lisa! Goodness, I'm kind of like you - but all I really have is neutral thread for the machine (get it at Connecting Threads). But, it's not uncommon for me to have maybe white, cream and tan bobbin thread all in one quilt - whatever is handy. I'm like you - no one is going to see it! Will be anxious to hear what everyone else has to say though.
I use neutrals when I piece...it's just easiest for me. I can wind a bunch of bobbins all at once and piece to my heart's content.
I use a neutral as well, and usually kind of a taupey light grey colour. I get mine at Connecting Threads as well, and buy a supply when they have a sale.
I use neutrals too. I curious to see what other people say. I'll be coming back to this post to find out.
I'm hope Connecting Threads is online because I would like to check it out.
I use a cream/off white color for my quilts, and when sewing a black (or very dark) quilt I use black as that's what I have - but dark grey is much better as it's easier to see if un-sewing is necessary. I was told that if you enter the quilt in a show to change the color according to the colors of the quilt. I like being able to just keep the one color in my needle and filling up a couple bobbins. With one color thread the machine is always ready to go.
Inquiring Minds Wants To Know..hmmm... find the reason, then.. as long as you do love it. prices are also a bit important!!
Sometimes when you use a darker thread on lighter fabrics the thread will show through from the front of the quilt. I notice this the most if I am using white fabric. Like you, I use whatever I happen to have on hand. I might buy a thread to quilt a certain project but never have a need for that color again. I like to use those threads up in the bobbins. I would rather use up my threads then let them sit around waiting for the "right" project.
