Squaring up

How do you square up your quilt tops? I've never been able to find a real clear explanation on how to do this so admittedly my quilts are not *truly* square. All of my attempts have been, hmmm, sloppy? crooked?looked better before I hacked into it? You know-bad. So I don't do it anymore.
I'd like to remedy that though so give me your tips, techniques, suggestions. Help me get square. LOL.

And because no post feels complete without a picture, here's one of my girl, Miaka. :)

Well, I can't help you with the squaring up cause I have the same problem, LOL so I'm hoping you get some advice I can use too. Miaka is adorable, I love her coloring! Have a very Blessed and Merry Christmas. Hugs...

Hi there
I was taught to measure the middle of your quilt from top to bottom and side to side.
That should be your finished measurement.
Happy Quilting!!

Oh I didn't know you were suppose to square them up! I thought you squared up your blocks and then that was it. Well, my quilts look square to me, so I guess I'm okay.
Such a cutie dog with the two black eyes! (I love dogs)
