Ok,I admit it

I'm addicted. I've made 3 quilts already from Dana's quilt along and now I've started another one. I can't help it. It comes together really quick once you get the hang of it and it looks so pretty, all those colors and gorgeous fabric that I've been hoarding being put to good use;-)
This go-round I decided to use all Heather Bailey fabrics. I love her stuff. Boy oh boy do I.
This is mostly Freshcut with some Bijoux and Pop Garden thrown in.
I actually have the top mostly assembled right now but I haven't taken a pic yet. I just need to add the border.
But that will have to wait a little bit because I am starting the quilting on my Grandma's quilt now. Remember I said I was going to do the 9 patch and it would be all purple. Yeah, that just didn't work. I laid out all the blocks and there was just something about it that I didn't like.
So onto the next:-)
I decided to use the stacked coins quilt that I fell in love with from AmandaJean.
A while ago I had cut up 2 Spring Magic charm packs to do this quilt and I sewed them all together, added the sashing and was so happy. It came together super fast, like 1 day. Can't beat that!
Wrong. When I pressed it I noticed that it was all warpy. Not cool.
AmandaJean was so nice to help me out. She asked if I had pinned the sashing. Umm, whoops.
I didn't even think of that. Duh.
Sure enough, I did alot of seam ripping and re-sewed the sashing on, PINNED, and it looks great now.
OK, so that was a really long winded explanation, huh?
Well, I appliqued the kids hands and feet last night and got it all sandwiched and pinned and ready to quilt.
So that's what I'll be doing for the next few days.

Another giveaway!

A quilt for my Grandma

I'm starting on another quilt project. I think that makes 5 projects going at once just for quilting! Sheesh!
But my Grandma is turning 88 next month and she's been told now she can't travel anymore:-(
She really wanted to come out here to see the kidlets. They are getting so big!
She's in Nebraska and we are in California, so not a short trip, but we can't make it out there for awhile so I thought maybe she would like a quilt with the kids hand and foot prints appliqued on it.
I decided on the nine patch, since I am already in the groove from making them for crazymom's quilt along
http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/2009/07/anyone-up-for-round-2.html
Her favorite color is purple so I am going with a purple/pinkish theme with white sashing. I need to get this done in just a few weeks so it can get to her on time. I'll post pictures soon. I've got the fabric all cut and am sewing right now.
Wish me luck! I think I am going to need it!

Old Red Barn Quilt Along Quilt #2 and my new machine!!

It's all basted and ready to quilt, but I have been dragging my feet starting on the actual quilting. I think I am a little skeered of what happened last time. See, I have a brand new machine. I had to buy one because I killed my older one. No seriously i did. I think I over-worked the poor thing to death and it finally had enough of me. ;-)This is my new machine-

It's the Brother PC-420PRW. It's a very nice machine and I think it is safe to say I am smitten with it:-) It has so many nifty features-
*Automatic Thread Cutter. Man, I love that thing!
* Start/Stop Button. I don't have to use the foot petal. Ever. YAY!!
*294 different stitches
*Super Quiet
*Easy Peasy to use even straight out of the boxI could go on and on:-)
Now, I know this was likely my fault, but when I was done quilting my daughter's quilt, I could not get the feed dogs back up. This freaked me out since one of the problems I had on my old machine was raising/lowering the feed dogs. I'm guessing I am doing something wrong but I can't think what. This was the first time I had quilted on this new machine, but what are the chances that 2 different machines would have the same problem, right? It must be me. If anyone has any idea what the problem could be please let me know!Anyway, I did finally get them raised and have been sewing quite nicely on it since, so who knows what happened. All I did was raise and lower the needle and the feed dogs raised all by themselves. So after that long winded explanation of my quilting fears, I should go and start now.
As Tigger would say TTFN Ta Ta For Now:-)

wow, I am a slacker

I just realized how long it has been since I've blogged. Bad Lisa!

So I just finished up Quilt#1 for the Old Red Barn Co Quilt aloing. http://oldredbarnco.blogspot.com/2009/05/quilt-along-week-1.html

I made 2, one for my daughter and one for me. Hers was made with Butterfly Fling and Spring Meadow Fabric, both from Moda.

Mine was made with various Michael Miller Prints. Paula Prass Flights of Fancy. Dude, I am loving that line. I neeeed to get the rest of the collection. I bought all of the prints I could find in my local store. Now I am on the hunt to find the rest. I also used some Ta Dot and some Boho Blossom. I am just about to start the quilting on that one now, but my daughters is finished so here it is in all it's glory.
I had alot of fun doing this quilt. It was ALOT of cutting, but so worth it! Dana has great instructions for cutting and evening up those uneven edges. My fabric has never been so straight. YAY!

I have always had problems cutting. I don't know what my problem is. I think I may have some kind of cutting disorder. I could never cut a straight line before. I know, it seems simple, right? Line up the edges, get a ruler, a rotary cutter, and you can't miss, right? Wrong. I always ended up with crooked cuts.
So I bought a new rotary cutter, an Olfa. Wow, I never knew there could be so much difference just because of a rotary cutter! This thing cuts through 8 layers of fabric like butter. I am in love!
My cutter was about 5 or 6 years old at least. I will never go back now that I know what a good rotary cutter should do!
